Deflection – The change in direction or movement from original location.
Example: With the applied load, the bridge experienced a deflection of 1 centimeter. With the applied load, the bridge bent by 1 centimeter.
Efficiency – The ability to make a desired product with the least expense or waste.
Hint: Use the least pieces to carry the most weight.
Horizontal –
Example:
Load – The weight that is carried
Example: A bridge carries the load. A bridge carries the weight.
Span – The distance between piers, towers or abutments.
Example: A bridge spans 300-ft. A bridge crosses over a 300-ft gap.
Hint: Bridge needs to be longer than the span.
